Photo Safari Experiences

Wildlife Photo Gallery

Here's a selection of some of Doug's wildlife photos or visit Douglas Carr Photography to see his fine art photography

The term #big5 Leopard - Lion - Elephant - Rhino - Buffalo comes from the old colonial hunting days where rifles were not so advanced as today and the hunter would have to be approximately 30m from his target to be able to kill it with the first shot and if the hunter wasn't successful he could of been killed. So it was the 5 animals that was the most dangerous to hunt on foot and today the so called 5 most photographed, but with the right equipment a photo of a antelope could sometimes be more interesting and as its about all your Photo Safari Experiences so don't limit yourself to the big 5 but look at every opportunity to photograph and try and be creative, change your angle, do close ups, add empty space and try slow shutter speeds for creative movement and no photo safari is complete if you didn't go on a night drive, but like any photo safari, luck plays a big role. On a night drive, your guide will have a spotlight and the aim will be to look for the big cats. The key is to be ready because you never know what the light will discover.
